Bridge- Stowe, VT
I love to walk especially when I’m in a beautiful place surrounded by nature. This is one of many bridges along a walking trail in Stowe, Vermont. As we head into the darker days of winter, I look back wistfully at the lush greenery of summer into fall.
As I continue to meet and interview new rescued pets and their humans, the humans refer me to others. Turns out, there are a lot of rescued pets, especially dogs, in my little neck of the world. Earlier, I introduced you to Amy, Ben and Rafi. It was Amy who served as matchmaker for Rochelle and Boo whose full name is Boodakiss.

Rochelle was walking along the Wissahickon and spotted Amy who had Boo with her. He was wearing an “adopt me” vest. Rochelle was not looking for a new dog as she and her husband had recently and heartbreakingly put their dog, Doby, to sleep at the age of 14. When Rochelle heard that Boo was in danger of being put down due to lack of space at the shelter, she hastily sent cell phone pictures of Boo to her husband who said, ok to bringing Boo home as a foster. A few weeks after bringing Boo home, Rochelle thought she had found Boo his forever home but things fell through. Boo was becoming part of the family and particularly attached to Rochelle. The rest as they say is history!

I met Amy and her “boys”, Raffi the Labradoodle and Ben the Basset, English Bulldog and Pit Bull mix, while walking my dogs one beautiful Saturday morning. From the moment we started talking, I knew Amy was special. She had rescued these two wonderfully sweet dogs but there was so much more to her story. Amy has had several rescued dogs and cats over the years and has fostered half a dozen additional dogs. She has volunteered her time to Philadelphia’s ACCT (Animal Care and Control Team) shelter to walk dogs who are stuck in crates day in and day out waiting for their “furever” families to come and adopt them. Amy also volunteers to transport adopted pets to their new homes or to the next location in the chain to getting them to “furever” homes. She’s married to Leo who also happens to be a great guy and has a dog walking business. You could say that this couple is God’s gift to animals in need.

Meet Anna and her rescue dog Grace. Grace is a 2 year old Boxer Lab mix who is full of energy. I love her wrinkled forehead and her sweet expressions. Anna has worked hard since bringing Grace into her home at age 10 weeks to harness Grace’s abundance of exuberance. One of Grace’s favorite activities is chasing and retrieving tennis balls. Sometimes, one ball is not enough. It does pose challenges though!

We are not getting the gorgeous foliage of seasons past this year in Philadelphia. This photo was taken several years ago but always makes me smile at the serene feel of the landscape.
